A Shadow Beast Shifter Novel
Author: Jaymin Eve
Release Date: December 30th 2020
My father made a terrible mistake. One I’m left paying for.
As a wolf shifter growing up in a strong pack, I should be living my best life. But after my father tried to kill the alpha, I’m labeled an outcast, traitor, less than dirt.
When I can’t take pack life any longer, I run, but apparently they don’t like losing their punching bag. Torin, the alpha’s son, drags me back before my first shift… a shift that will reveal my true mate.
I never could have predicted who mine would be, but the moment my wolf looks upon him, I’m filled with hope for a brighter future.
After all, no one ever rejects their true mate, right?
Wrong. Very wrong.
When the wolves attack, my soul screams for vengeance, and somehow I touch the shadow world. Somehow I bring him to our lands.
The Shadow Beast. Our shifter god. The devil himself.
Turns out being rejected by my mate was only the beginning.
This is the first time I have read something by this author who fantasy romance have intrigued for a long time. The concept of this series is what caught my attention. The concept of a rejected mate isn’t anything new to the genre. The idea has been used time and time again as a starting point or turning point in the novel. Eve’s usage of this troope as a turning point is smart given that it opens up a can of worms that leads to further development of the story.
The heroine Mera is one that fits the bill for the rejected story. She had a hard life thanks to her father’s choices and she paid for them. The hierarchy in this pack is no different from many other and it really helps with driving the rejected trope home.
This where I get conflicted as after Mera literally has fight her way through surviving everything so far. Shadow Beast appears literally and he throws everything to a tail spin.
Shadow Beast is the one who opens the world and literally offers a lot of information that keeps flying fast and thick. Their worlds crossing , gives fantastic world building but his honestly the enigma throws me off and leaves me conflicted.
He isn’t the most pleasant character and that the charm of the book. He is the anti hero that you don’t want to mess around with . He is a powerful person and he honestly is toying with us. He choose what to reveal is only dragging us in and the book. Eve has left me with a conundrum what to think of Shadow Beast.
Mera didn’t mess around when it came to him and this book honestly was only a taste of what to come. Then we have to be prepared for a crazy ride.
