Review:Irreversibly Broken by J.L Stray

IRREVERSIBLY BROKEN

By J.L. Stray

Release Date: September 24

Danielle Moyer has been attracted to her supervisor, Mike Connelly, since the day she walked into the Philadelphia Probation and Parole. But there’s a rule: Subordinates cannot date supervisors. Danielle doesn’t act on it. She’s convinced herself that any stolen glance, slight touch or innuendo is all in her mind. And then..

One ride
One kiss
One night
Changes everything

Mike Connelly never meant to cross the line with one of his staff, but there is something very inviting about Danielle and he can’t help himself. The two give in and find themselves navigating a very dicey office romance. With pasts that are riddled with things that have left them broken, making it an uneasy road.

Add in the rule: supervisors can’t date their subordinates and you’ve got a situation that could easily break in more ways than one.

Can they endure or will it leave them broken?

J.L. Shay had me curious from the beginning, this isn’t your typical book .You can pick up really quickly once you read that this isn’t your typical romance. These two are harden by their own respective pasts and they aren’t afraid to live on the wild side when they are out of the office.  It all the thrill of the chase for these two who are broken in different ways.

The premise was intriguing as this isn’t your typical office affair. The leads work as correction officers and there is clear policies about dating . So the heroine, Danielle has had her creative juices running like crazy imagining what it would be like if Mike did make a move.

And Mike wants to. There is hints of it from the beginning, their interactions have hidden meanings so it only time. Who is going to fall first and enter a romance that could risk everything for them professionally.

As we dive into deeper, we get a sense this book is only the beginning to the two of them. Whilst we are in Danielle’s head constantly, we only hear what comes from Mike’s mouth. There was this  barrier that need to be broken down to fully understand him and hope this is addressed in the next book.

Danielle’s story was the one that took the up the most of the story. We learn how she is broken and  wants to fix things despite her limitations. She wears her heart on her shelves at time and you wonder why  at first. Shay reveals everything in time and you  are left wondering what next.

Shay’s debut was intiruging and well written. It a quirky take on the office romance with older characters.  It was a twist I didn’t see coming given the way that Danielle came across at first. However it made sense as time went by and I enjoyed the bantering about it. Hopefully the second book answers lingeringly questions and see these two off settled.
