Release Date: September 10, 2020

Genre: Contemporary Romance with a paranormal twist

Evan O’Brien lived his immortal existence committed to a life of hardcore service to the secret war and army of The Grid. He had zero time for love, an emotion that complicated his control on all aspects of his life. He was determined his heart had no say. And nothing or no one could change that.

Lily Devenmore spent her days working with kids in a job surrounded by books at the library. She lived as loud and as bold as being born to the Grid allowed. As love found her sisters, Lily longed for it too. But she had yet to find a man who wanted her as she was.

That all changed in one day. Not only was she held hostage but Evan also learned his heart had been held for ransom for far too long. Could they rescue each other? With the help of some of your favorite characters from The Everyday Heroes World, they just might.

This book was an  quirky take on the Everyday world.  In this world, there are the Grid which seem to be like mash up of a few paranormal creature given the abilities of the hero. The hero Evan is immortal and  his life revolves around the army he manages .

He doesn’t have time for anything else but there is one person who gets under his skin. The heroine Lilly who works for the Grid ,running the local school. She is by the book and that means annoying Evan when he asks for her paperwork.

Their interactions are their basis for the relationship and the whole story which plays out fast. The gist of the romantic lives is that Lily wishes for a man and Evan  believes he has no time. Their relationship is fast and heats up when a situation unfolds which is basically can be guessed as you know the title is alluding to it.

Hostage which leads to Lily and Evan being forced to work from different angles to solve this situation which isn’t easy. The hostage situation plays out like a real life situation there is plenty of  reactions and actions from different characters involved in the situation which was interesting and brought  the book to life.   It does drag out  in order to give this relationship some  momentum.  The hostage situation is told over a few chapters so that Lily and Evan get to spend some time together and learn about Evan’s humble beginnings.

Overall this book isn’t bad but it felt like it was missing things. There felt like I was an interloper to this Grid community. Like there was background missing as this romance didn’t felt like it was insta romance. It felt it had been building up and then it was forced to go fast when this situation played out.  It’s an interesting concept that need a little more time to work out it’s kinks.
