Blog Tour : Engagement and Espionage (Solving for Pie: Cletus and Jenn Mysteries #1) by Penny Reid

Jennifer Sylvester made her deal with the devil . . . and now they’re engaged!

But all is not well in Green Valley. A chicken choker is on the loose, 61 dead birds most “fowl” need plucking, and no time remains for Jennifer and her devilish fiancé. Desperate to find a spare moment together, Jenn and Cletus’s attempts to reconnect are thwarted by one seemingly coincidental disaster after another. It’s not long before Cletus and Jenn see a pattern emerge and the truth becomes clear.

Sabotage!

Will an undercover mission unmask the culprit? Or are these love-birds totally plucked?

‘Engagement and Espionage’ is the first book in the Solving for Pie: Cletus and Jenn Mysteries series, is a full-length cozy mystery, and is a spin-off of Penny Reid’s Winston Brothers series. This novel is best read after ‘Beard Science,’ Winston Brothers #3.

Some of my favourite cosy mysteries have come from authors I adore. I love cosy mysteries when they have right balance between romance and mystery which this book delivered in spades.

It’s nice to see Cletus and Jen back after their initial story. We can see how little has change since the end of Beard Science in terms of the romance. So this book is more about the Green Valley community and of course the mystery that get caught up in .

This felt more of Jen book with Cletus along for the ride with his charms and wits. Jen is caught up with family and of course the Winston Brothers are around and provide entertainment. He was her rock pushing Jen to finally get handle on her life which is crazy in this book. The mystery was cute and appropriate given Jen’s background.

I loved the little nods to Reid’s humour with the farms in the story. It’s not surprise that Jen need a wake up call given how quick tables turned and there seem to be one problem after another. It’s the good feel book I didn’t know I need from Reid. It’s smart and brings together two things together I enjoy.
I can’t wait for more of this clever adaptable series which I know will be a treat

Rating: 4 out of 5.
