They say opposites attract, but in this case, they might just combust . . .
HEATHER
Hermosa Beach seems to be the place for throwing together unlikely opposites.
My rooster Rowdy and his new crush, Pixy the goat.
Me and the obnoxiously cocky cowboy from Texas . . .
But unlike Rowdy and Pixy, there’s no way I’m going to fall for David Strickland.
Nope. Not gonna happen. I could never be with a man so completely opposed to everything I believe . . . no matter how hot he is.
DAVID
There couldn’t be two people more different than the beautiful little tree hugger and rooster rescuer Heather and me.
We can’t agree on anything, except that we disagree on everything—some times more heatedly than other times. And believe me, things are starting to heat up between us, in more ways than one.
She’s the last thing I expected to find at an animal shelter in California. But now I found her, I have no intention of letting her go.
I just have to get her on board with that plan.
Mother Clucker is Cat Johnson’s offering to the Cocky Hero World and fits perfectly in this world. It’s obvious from the moment when Heather finds Rowdy that readers can figure where Heather fits into the world. As it seems that Johnson has been inspired by an infamous goat who stole our hearts in Cocky Bastard.
The whole animal connection fits in with the story of existing characters in this world. It’s easy to see why Johnson went down this path to create her own story in this world. As it’s an unique story and make sense given the back stories of both characters. As who wouldn’t want to help animals in need even when there is ulterior motives at hand.
With the familiar setting of Hermosa Beach as our main setting for this book. Johnson weaves a story of a Texas cowboy who is trying to do damage control for his family and instead gets more than he bargains for.
Who knew a rooster could change your life completely. Well David and Heather didn’t know . Rowdy is sweet and determined to cause his own brand of havoc . It causes plenty o f moments but more importantly he helps let his owner fall in love despite her own hang up. Heather is a twenty something Californian who doesn’t believe in any form of animal cruelty. Especially the business David’s family is in .
Pet food….
Johnson’s Mother Clucker was a whole bundle of fun with a seriousness that I wasn’t expecting. It was fun reading a new to me author and discovering Johnson’s own characters who made cameo appearance in the story.
There was one thing that was apparent about Johnson’s writing. She has a type of male heroes. Namely strong alpha males and this one was straight from the ranch. David Strickland was an interesting hero. He had inherited a world of problems and was trying to do the best he knew how to .
However Rowdy stole the show. He had the right timing and it saved some chickens from wrath. It made Heather happy and honestly it was just the sweetness that the book need. It’s was fun having an another animal centric book that was crazy as the book it was inspired by.
