When Earth intercepts a message from a long-extinct alien race, it seems like the solution the planet has been waiting for. The Undying’s advanced technology has the potential to undo environmental damage and turn lives around, and Gaia, their former home planet, is a treasure trove waiting to be uncovered.
For Jules Addison and his fellow scholars, the discovery of an alien culture offers unprecedented opportunity for study… as long as scavengers like Amelia Radcliffe don’t loot everything first. Mia and Jules’ different reasons for smuggling themselves onto Gaia put them immediately at odds, but after escaping a dangerous confrontation with other scavvers, they form a fragile alliance.
In order to penetrate the Undying temple and reach the tech and information hidden within, the two must decode the ancient race’s secrets and survive their traps. But the more they learn about the Undying, the more their presence in the temple seems to be part of a grand design that could spell the end of the human race…
Okay so I thought I was done with cliff hangers that would leave my jaw dropping. Nope, the duo of Kaufman and Spooner had to go and top my expectations for cliff hangers in 2017. So right now I’m willing to do anything for the sequel as I need the second book. As Unearthed was one of those books, where the marketing was spot on and it was easy to fly through the pages of this novel once it got going and led us down the path of unknown
As it was as good as it was described for me and the leads characters were delightful. There was hardly any sense of romance in this book as well which was a bonus as I was too caught up in the adventure
The concept was genius, what if an adventurer like Indiana Jones found themselves in Space. Posing that question, the duo weave a story that explores that question creatively and intriguing. With two characters that are opposites ends of the spectrum. Jules the explorer and Mia the scavenger. Both are missions of their own according hoping to better themselves in life given the pandemic .
With Earth dying in this alternative universe, the powers that be are struggling with the responsibilities. It’s up to individuals to make moves like these two .Each of them seems fitting of their roles as we learn as we get alternating POV chapters as we see these struggle with the decisions that they have made. That force to them to team up together to achieve their missions .
It is quite interesting pairing as Mia is a brass, street smart scavenger trying to find riches whilst Jules is a straight lace academic sort who is trying to find a solution to Earth’s problem. So it’s natural that they but heads and it is pure entertainment once they find their groove. As when it is every man for themselves even though they teamed up together to solve their problems . It how teenagers should be given the situation they are in , as it not just an everyday situation here. It’s romping adventure that is dangerous and thrilling with real repercussions
This maybe the first book from these two I have read but I loved the writing and the banter between Jules and Mia. Mia was kickass and I loved how she was willing to do just anything in this adventure. Even risk Jules, it was nice to see a sort of gender role reserve and I can’t wait to see how this plays out in the second.
With the world building and other necessary information out of the way allowing the duo to create the atmosphere . I do hope this second book will build of the second half which was the stronger half in my opinion though I enjoyed the entire book. . It’s definitely more than just a pretty shiny cover and I can’t wait to see how everything plays out in the end.
